Train them up…

June 2022! Gosh where has the time gone? It seems like such a long time since I’ve posted a blog. Between covid, moving between countries and everything else, its been hard to make time to pen things, mothering has also been super busy. I’m sure those with 2&4 year olds can relate.

One thing I’ve come to learn is children will not do what you tell them to do, but rather do what you do! In learning that my life has become somewhat easier “teaching” my kids as I do what needs to be done with them instead of just dictating. Do I do this everyday? NO, no i don’t! I mean I do not have time every single day to help them tidy up their toys, so on those days I don’t do it with them I do dictate it them and guess what the job gets done and the reason the job gets done is because it was taught by example and not just me lording over them to do it. I do, however, need to go in after they’ve done tidying up because let’s face it toddler clean and adult clean is not the same LOL.

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22 vs 6

Now all of us know the above scripture is focused on training them up in the ways of the Lord. This scripture refers to everyday life as well I believe.

If WE are not training our kids in the way they should go, they’ll eventually get trained by the things around them e.g.: Social media (youtube) television, school, friends…

As cute and adorable as babies toddlers and kids are they have a sinful nature, and if they are not taught how to be kind, how to love, how to deal with their emotions and everything else in between they’ll become bitter unkind and unyielding adults!

Let us take responsibilty in teaching our children, teaching them the nature of who Christ is in them and the power and authority they have as children of God. I’ve met too many adults that are struggling in life because they were not taught the basics from a young age, they struggle to submit to authority, they live out of their emotions because they weren’t taught how to deal with their emotions, they are unkind, impatient and rude because they was no foundation laid in their childhood but God can and will do a deep work in their hearts if they allow it!

For those of us with young kids let us train them up in the ways of the Lord, something that we want to do as a family is have time set aside to read the word together and not just have it be a quick bedtime story and prayer before tucking them in. We are our kids greatest influencers, so we have to be careful how we walk this walk because they are following us everywhere we go!

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin. Zechriah 4 vs 10a

Let us set an example in word, conduct and deed for our little ones.
